Just recently people have been introduced to the Harmony 880 universal remote as a wonderful and convenient device. Harmony remotes are fully conceived by the people of Logitech. The Harmony 880 is the first to feature a color screen with a rechargeable battery and the patented docking station. It is slightly larger and has that bell shape that has become the Logitech trademark. In addition, it has expanded color capabilities, larger LCD, eight icons and eight hard buttons. It also features a display that has 128X160 resolutions.
The Harmony product that came before had the soft rubbery buttons that people disliked. To combat this, Logitech changed this feature and gave them new hard plastic buttons that are more durable and work to be more responsive. The 880 is compatible with digital set top boxes, DVD, DVR, and even media center PCâs. However, you will have to customize the buttons to get it to perform all of the functions.
Another of the features the Harmony 880 added was the docking station that includes the rechargeable batteries. This feature is great since you know longer have to buy batteries. The batteries charged will work for about two weeks and are easily charge by leaving the remote on the cradle. You can also add digital backgrounds and screensavers as well as making slide shows.
Harmony 880 remotes are programmed by connecting them to the PC or Mac through a USB cable and installing the software. You must then fill out a simple questionnaire at the Logitech website. You must choose all of your home theater products from a list at the site and explain how you have them connected. You may also have to explain their functions such as âWatch TV,â âWatch DVD,â and âListen to Music.â You will be required to do this for every product that you input into your remote. After the completion of the questionnaire, just let the software upload all of the information and codes to the 880. You will want to continue to upload those listing periodically.
If you are having any trouble with your remote, it comes with the easy Help key to help troubleshoot your equipment. If you cannot find what is wrong with your equipment, you can call or email the customer service department for technical support. The 880 performed well in testing and was able to command up to 6 components at the same time. It is able to control HDTV, A/V receivers, DVD player, CD and many other components.
The Harmony 880 has set the standard for remotes. Itâs a great advance for high end remotes adding features such as color screens, motion sensors, and docking stations.
