The History Of Sega Dreamcast (Part 1/2)
To Wii Or Not To Wii That Is The Question! by Kristi Ambrose
Since Nintendo first released the Wii in 2007 it has been flying off the shelves at every single store in America and in other countries as well. But what is it that makes this console in particular so incredibly popular? Well for one thing, the Wii isn't just another console and its unlike anything we have ever seen since the years when Atari was first released.
This gaming console is one in which you can actually interact with the game, and now with the new iFit coming out, it has blasted through any other system thus far. You would think everyone would love these consoles right? I mean since September of 2008 there have been over 34.55 million units have been shipped to North America, South America, Japan, and other regions.
One would think that Japan would have been this unit ships, however, Japan is only at 6.91 million whereas South America and North America are at 15.19 million and The financial Times reported that as of September 12, 2007 its sales has been the leader of its generation. One of the named features of this console in particular is its wireless controller also called a remote which can be used in a handheld pointing device and detect movement in three dimensions.
With all of these major record statistics you would think everyone would love a Wii, but actually it's quite the opposite. People often refer to this as the "kiddy system" with its interactive roots, and play like attributes, a lot of people don't see this system in particular a real system. I guess for my generation we figure if we can't just be lazy and sit on a couch then it must be a stupid idea.
I don't particularly feel the same way some of these people do! In fact, I think that the unique factors about the Wii does make it an incredible gaming console and a REAL system, tried and true. Nintendo shot most of the other consoles out of the water because it IS an interactive system! That was the point! To make people get off their couches and start actually moving more than just their fingers.
When I first heard of the Wii and iFit I thought it was an incredibly amazing idea to get everyone and anyone involved, old or young. To get people to participate in an activity in which they could also have fun and potentially get people's hearts pumping with games like Guitar Hero and Boxing. I mean there literally is no other innovator like Nintendo out there. Gaming consoles are a dime a dozen and every single year a new one comes out; console, handheld or otherwise.
Frankly, I don't think anyone will ever catch up with the unique inventive material that Nintendo did when they released the Wii, and even if they did down the line, there will still be millions upon millions who will remember Wii have conquered the gaming universe!
Other gaming consoles by the ever popular Nintendo include the following:
The Super Nintendo Entertainment System was Nintendo's second home console, following the Nintendo Entertainment System (NES). The console introduced advanced graphics and sound capabilities that compensated for its relatively slow CPU, compared with other consoles at the time. Additionally, development of a variety of enhancement chips (which shipped as part of certain game cartridges) helped to keep it competitive in the marketplace.
The Nintendo 64 often abbreviated as N64, is Nintendo's third home video Game Console for the international market. Named for its 64-bit GPU, it was released on June 23 1996 in Japan, September 29 1996 in North America, March 1 1997 in Europe and Australia, September 1 1997 in France and December 10 1997 in Brazil. It is Nintendo's last home console to use cartridges to store games (Nintendo switched to a proprietary optical format for the GameCube, then to standard DVD-sized media for Wii), and for being the first modern home console to have a controller with an analog stick.
The Nintendo GameCube, often abbreviated as GCN, is Nintendo's fourth home Video Game console and is part of the sixth generation console era. The hardware system is the most compact, and second-cheapest after Sega's Dreamcast, of the sixth generation. It is the successor to the Nintendo 64 and predecessor to Nintendo's Wii. The console was released on September 14, 2001 in Japan, November 18, 2001 in North America, May 3, 2002 in Europe, and May 17, 2002 in Australia. The GameCube sold 21.74 million units worldwide.
The Nintendo DS Lite is a dual-screen handheld game console developed and manufactured by Nintendo. It is a slimmer, brighter, and more lightweight redesign of the Nintendo DS, designed to be aesthetically sleeker while taking styling cues from the Game Boy Advance SP, and to appeal to broader commercial audiences. It was announced on January 26, 2006, more than a month before its initial release in Japan on March 2, 2006 due to overwhelming demand for the original model. It has been released in Australia, North America, Europe, New Zealand, Singapore, and defined regions in South America, the Middle East, and East Asia. As of September 30, 2008, sales of the DS Lite have reached 65.51 million units worldwide, according to Nintendo.
